How far away from urban do you want to be? I live in big falls, and can go into our little town easily enough, but if I want anything more than what I can get here, it's like 45 minutes to the nearest true city, and an hour and a half away from a Walmart without having to cross the border
Duluth is more urban than rural IMO. What vibe are you looking for? Lake country or suburbia? How far from an airport? What price range? What are your top 3 needs?
Okay okay .. reading your responses. Thank you ladies . We’re okay with urban but definitely just want to keep in mind the space we’d like which is nothing smaller than an acre. We’re okay being as far as like an hour / an hour and a half away from a major city / all of the type of major stores and what not. My main concern is making sure that there will be schools near and we can still somewhat be apart of the community of course. . But we definitely don’t mind not being super super close at all. I’m liking the homes I see in Duluth but my husband is hesitant moving north because of not knowing how much snow may hit during winters there.
Schools near, safety / not feeling super out of place when it comes to diversity, price range we’re keeping in the low 200’s if we can since we’re looking into some homes that may be a bit older but offer the space / land. Airport distance ? Not too sure as it’s just us and we don’t get many family visitors so I’d say also about an hour or so works as well. Haha I probably sound so confusing but ugh just trying to figure this all out before these three - four months are up.
Grand Rapids is an awesome community, I lived there for many years and wish I could go back. No matter where you go in MN including the cities you will find winter conditions can vary drastically and you will need to learn to love it 😂
You might check out the Brainerd lakes area too. Join the MN Homestead Mama’s group on FB and there’s posts like this often you could sort through
