Help 🫠

My son has a horrible cold and is spitting out any food that isn’t yoghurt 🫥 has anyone been through this? Did you find another way to top up their food intake?

My son was exactly the same few weeks ago, its was any food with bits. I had to make him veggie soup with chicken broth until he got better

- blend until its smooth or he would throw it back up 🤧

My little girl had hand foot and mouth 3 weeks ago with horrendous blisters in her mouth, she’s still not back to her normal self with food! I just offer her more milk and water and lots of snacks more often! main meals she really struggles with xx

Yeah my guys the Same as above. A cold followed straight into hand foot and mouth last week and another cold today 😩 he's literally eating chicken soup and Ella's pouches/ yogurts . I feel terrible but as long as they get something I guess it's better than nothing

I use Kendamil protein shakes for days like that! My son likes soup so its also what I make sure to load with everything from the fridge

It also a healthy mechanism to avoid food whenever we are sick! That way your body can focus in fighting off whatever is going through without spending too much energy in digestion. Im indigenous and my family always slow down on food whenever kids get sick. We encourage sunlight, water or 100% juice, fruits, light vegetables and soups

Not a cold but my boy had chickenpox and he went completely off his food and is still very hit and miss, one think I can count on him eating is cheese 😂😂 stresses me out but I’m trying my best to offer a variety xx

My oldest would do this when he was sick. I would make smoothies. Milk or milk alternative, yogurt, half a banana, tablespoon of peanut butter and maybe a tablespoon or two of oats. If you can soak the oats in the milk overnight it's good, if not just blend a little longer. It feels like a treat while also getting fats, sugars, fiber and protein into them. Your can also add a pinch of cinnamon into it and it's yummy. And if you have leftover other fruit, or carrots, or courgettes (if you freeze them they give similar texture as frozen banana in smoothies) then you can add that in and if you blend it enough it's not noticeable. Taste and add honey or more banana if a bit of sweetness is needed. This kind of smoothie was always my secret weapon when oldest was sick and was already my go to smoothie for my second pregnancy.

@Elizabeth the smoothies is an amazing idea! I have all of those things in! Thank you

And if you have a straw I find that helps! It makes it feel more like a treat for them, especially as they get older. We bought a pack of clear plastic straws, so I can make sure they're clean on the inside, and there's stretchy silicone lids that you can get online that turn any cup into a lidded cup and they're perfect for smoothies, and also to take to restaurants! https://www.amazon.co.uk/iGadgitz-Home-Reusable-Silicone-Spill-Proof/dp/B072F73JVJ/ref=asc_df_B072F73JVJ

My son is exactly like this now but I’ve noticed for him weetabix, beans are a winner for him, anything liquidy like soups, fruit pouches, juice. I think as long as his milk intake is good and offer more fluid it should be fine but my god it stresses me out when he doesn’t as he’s always such a good eater!!
