Reflux?

Bit of a strange one here but u know ur instincts always tell u something and u can’t shake it… Since week 2 my baby was very colicky and would cry all day every day. I was adamant it’s something to do with either the formula or the formula. I tried loads of bottles and teats, I tried all the drops and medications and it slightly improved when we hit 8 weeks but is still very much an issue. Anyway I spoke to the GP and HV about this and was told by both no there’s nothing wrong it’s all normal. I don’t think it’s cmpa or intolerance because changing the formula didn’t help & there is no issues with poo or rashes etc. I’m wondering if it’s reflux because every time after the bottle we burp, we’re sick and its like all stringy saliva type stuff not just milk then start hiccups and it’s accompanied by a lot of crying and back arching and wriggling. The HV said if she had reflux u wouldn’t be able to lie her down on her back, like ever. See the weird thing is if I lie her down relatively quickly after a feed (10m) she seems dead happy starts smiling and brings up what looks like “normal spit up” milky stuff rather than that horrible sick and she doesn’t seem in any pain or discomfort on her back. GP very dismissive but I’m wondering should I keep persisting with this. It’s improving but not sure if she’s suffering here every bottle or not?

Keep persisting. It sounds like reflux to me xx

My boy is the same, I’m just powering through each day tbh and he’s unsettled as soon as the evening starts so I don’t think cmpa but then again he’s super congested all of the time scans is full of cold x

Mine was the same, but we did have to keep her upright the whole time she was awake to make her more comfortable. She was uncomfortable laying down but not severely every time and it would take a while to get her down at night. Doctor prescribed gaviscon and she was a completely different baby straight away. So much happier and more comfortable.

@Amy it’s not every bottle either but probably 3/5 bottles this happens so again the HV was like well there u go it can’t be reflux … but it’s got to be something 🤔 it’s hard isn’t it. I’m the same just taking each day as it comes and hoping for improvement. At 8 weeks I thought we’d turned a corner but now I’m not so sure…will see what 12 weeks brings and mention again if no improvement

Yeah same here but then what is it 🤯 honestly my brain just can’t decide what is best I breastfeed and don’t want to switch to a dairy free formula give it 2 weeks lose my supply for it to possibly not work and I not be able to breastfeed him anymore Yeah think I’ll wait till 12 weeks as that is next Friday 😭 see what happens too! Hope it settles down or you at least get some answers and decent help for your LO🩷🩵

@Amy I was told only had to wait 3 days for me to be dairy free, so pumped for those days, but others have been told just to keep feeding throughout. Hope things settle down so you won't have to

Our little one has had reflux since 6 weeks old, it's never been every bottle or not being able to put on her back - she has good days and bad days, and times of day. We do have to keep her upright for min 20mins after feeds, but you can happily lie her down on the changing mat if needed, makes no sense

@Vic I hope so too thank you

I think there’s so many opinions you end up getting overwhelmed and worried there is something wrong I mean always trust your gut but most babies have stomach issues as there not developed until around 6 months we can try anything and everything and sometimes nothing works permanently! I would recommend a cranial osteopath as they can release tensions and give you exercises to do with your little one if they think anything could help with the issues you are having! Xx
