Job offer question

Hello mamas. I've been offered a part time job (3 days a week) and they want me in the office for 2 days. With travel and childcare costs I really want to be able to go in 1 day. How can I justify this with a valid reason to the emoloyer? I also wanted tips on how to negotiate salary - I havent gone back to work since having bubba so i'm a bit rusty. Thanks in advance x

I don't think you have to give a hardcore reason re 1 day in the office. I'd say something like, would you be open to discussing me having one set day a week in the office? Then if they push 2, say you are happy to be flexible and come in for important meetings etc, but minimum one day in the office a week is preferable. Re salary, I assume they've offered you something, so ask if there's wiggle room to negotiate. Or you could go with, other positions in the same field in looking at are offering x, and I believe I can add value in this role and give examples, I was expecting something in x region. If they say no to more salary, use the one day a week as a trade off for them to agree to and a salary review after the first 3 months. Good luck

In my experience, I negotiated salary to meet my childcare cost expectations. I was asked to be onsite. I would suggest you say that with the salary, you wouldn’t be able to go in three days a week due to childcare expenses. I would then say how much it would cost you in addition per annum and ask that they add that to your salary so you can meet their expectations of being onsite. This way you’re being transparent while asking and if they can’t increase your salary to meet the childcare cost requirement, they will need to reconsider the number of days they want you onsite

Thanks so much guys, thats super helpful. She'll call me later today x
