Has anyone changed their last name to their partners without actually getting married?

Wondering if anyone has done this? I want the same last name as my daughter but we can’t afford to get married and aren’t too bothered about actually getting married as in our minds we already are. Is it weird to change my name to his so it’s the same as my daughters without actually being married?

It can be costly to legally change your name, probably more so than just getting married at a registry office.

Many people do this, you can do it through deed poll if you are in the UK

@Hannah cheaper in the long run if divorce ends up happening 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Haha yes, something certainly to consider!

@Hannah if it’s in the UK, it can cost as little as £36 to change your name via deed poll. I changed my surname mid divorce as it was dragging and I no longer wanted to be associated with my ex husband nor my birth family

If you’re not bothered by the ceremony side of getting married I’d just go to a registry office and make it official that way personally x

Not me, but my mum did this back in the 80’s so we all had the same surname - my parents were never married. Don’t think it’s weird at all 🤷🏻‍♀️😁

How come your daughter didn’t take your last name?

I did

My friend did and changed it by deed poll, has no connection to baby’s dad but share the same name

No, I just wanted till we were married. We were due to be married before my daughter was even conceived but due to covid she beat me to the name. I understand wanting to have the same surname, but if yous are planning to be married in time I wouldn't think there would be any point going through the steps to change your name legally, until then x
