My 1 year old daughter has become picky as well, she rarely eats what I eat. I meal prep homemade chicken nuggets and French fries for the freezer. She’s recently loving breakfast sausage links and scrambled eggs coated in ketchup too. As long as she eats enough to have a happy tummy and most of it is made by me, I don’t worry much. I figure this is just a phase and I don’t want to make eating feel like a chore for her. I’m sure as I consistently introduce her to new foods by eating them myself, she will open up to trying new things especially as she gets older.

From a feeding therapy perspective (I’m an early intervention OT) I typically recommend that everyone at the dinner table has the same thing on their plate, including at least one safe food that you know your child will eat. Don’t pressure them to eat anything they don’t want to because this will lead to bad experiences with food, just have the options available. Try to make meal time fun for them. I always get playful with my clients who are trying new foods. I’ll rub it on my face and make a silly face, sing a song about it or narrate what the food feels like, looks like, tastes like etc. to build curiosity and positive associations. Then I’ll stick some in my mouth (while they’re watching) and offer some to them. If they decline, I respect it and try again another time or with a different food. Are there any trends/similarities in your child’s preferred foods?

My daughter is 1.5 and very picky right now. All her favorite “meal” type foods she says are hot…lol. I still offer her a little of what we eat but she won’t touch it. She is more of a charcuterie board type eater right now. She has never taken to meat or fish besides shrimp. I asked the doctor and she was not concerned as she was still getting her food groups in and gaining weight.

@Tay sausage is a great idea! My girl hates eggs so we are muffins, pancakes, waffles around here lol

It’s dependent on the day if I’m not having dinner myself I’ll make it separate otherwise I give my daughter a separate meal. Have you tried when giving your meal adding something your 1 year old likes ?

@Chloe he only likes chewy things like meats

@Nikki yes he really love meat some days i prefer not to make meat but i make him a little bit of dominican salami which is like a spanish sausage but im worried its not good for his health
