@🔮Angela🔮 thank you for sharing lovely, that's really good to hear and definitely eases some of my worries! Glad you had such a positive experience with them. Will definitely be calling them this week to follow up 😊 x
I heard it takes a while to hear back but I have type 2 diabetes so they made contact with me in abt a week. I haven’t had any bad experiences that resonate but I do remember not always being happy. the worst midwives were the ones just Abt business. But they do have lovely staff & facilities. If you’re driving parking is trash, always try to get the earliest appointment times. You’re More likely to get parking & get through faster. I found receptionist desk is a bit lacking in knowledge. And sometimes you have to feel your way but the midwives that are good are soo good they felt like friends
All my midwives that I had were lovely. Not sure if it’s just me but when I gave birth in July I had 2 midwives with me at all times when in the delivery suite and it was amazing, I felt so supported and they helped me through everything! I went in for reduced movements a lot at the end of my pregnancy and every midwife was so kind to me and understanding when he would move after coming in, they told me to come in again if i’m worried about anything they are there to help! All results came back fast. I found wait time fast Negatives: Parking is SHOCKING! Get someone to drop you off at the front door when actually giving birth so you’re straight in, it’s horrendous. The front desk are mostly useless, I never found they were much help. Also very hard to speak to them through a plastic screen. It’s very busy. I was booked for an induction in the morning, got cancelled because of overcapacity, was told to come in, was told to go home, then told there was a bed free at 3pm, gel at 10pm…
Thank you ladies! Really helpful to hear your experiences, it's scary being pregnant and going into an unknown place you've definitely calmed my nerves. Also great to know about parking, will definitely be getting lifts from my partner or taxis for appointments now knowing this. Thank you ❤️
I gave birth in Preston after BVH completely fucked me over. My experience was so posotive with them. The midwives (Jane, Alicia and Chloe) were the most fantastic people I'd ever met and I felt like I'd known them for years they made what was a shirty situation really posotive. I ended up having a section and the after care and the midwives on the ward couldn't do enough fir us. The doctor who delivered my LG stayed over an hour after her shift to ensure she came safely and explained the who what when in detail so I left with no questions. If i have another baby I will be asking for them to care for us 🥰
Oh I forgot how bad the parking was!! Think I blocked it out 🤣 I also went in for reduced movements towards the end and like Hannah said, they were lovely and speedy! Always so calm and reassuring and kept hammering it home that I should go back in if I were to be unsure again. Lovely staff. I had to have an ECV coz my girl was breech and they were so nice and friendly! Lucy was my midwife and Charlotte was my doctor who did my section (and talked me through a few things I was dealing with in my amniotic fluid). She made sure she switched her shifts around to ensure she was the one to do my section too which was way above and beyond 💛
I've just moved my care from Preston hospital to Cornwall at 36 weeks and they told me to call the maternity unit and let them know I was coming, when I did they set up a telephone appointment for me and my next midwife appointment, I assume they will do the same at Preston for you if you give them a call and explain what's going on they will advise where they can, Preston were very good with my situation (don't know if I will be back in Preston for baby or not) xx
Everything at Preston with our first was amazing, from reduced movement checks, up to delivery suite and having her, apart from our experience on the maternity ward (other than a couple of midwife and the student midwives).
Always used preston. Never had any issues always found them helpful
Absolutely loved preston! Although the only bad thing is the parking 😫 it was terrible xx
I actually had to do the same, move in my third trimester to Preston, they will contact you and check with you how far along you are from the date you gave them in the self referral form. They will do the checks you had from the start so I would suggest keeping your pregnancy record handy. Otherwise, the team were lovely and looked after me well x
@Phillipa I agree with this regarding the post natal ward. I was transferred from CBC to Preston and was so appreciative of my care, but felt this wasn't replicated after little one was born on the post natal ward.
Can spouses stay with you overnight in the maternity ward or do they have to go home at a certain time?
@Mindy they can stay with you, the chair folds out into a bed
I had a lovely time with Preston through pregnancy and birth, they were so good with everything. Not sure how they are with referrals, but defo reach out to them if they don’t in the next few days
