HG and Iron tablets

I'm almost 30 weeks and on xoneva for HG 3x a day and it's uts been sooo helpful but my iron is low so drs prescribed me ferrous sulphate but it made me instantly violently sick again. I can manage the spa tone sachets but midwife says tablets would be better does anyone have any experience of managing iron tablets with HG? I've heard ferrous fumarate is meant to be better on the tummy 🤔

Not personally but I know a lot of women with HG can’t take the tablets, they have to have infusions. Sorry but your midwife isn’t the one being violently sick and if the sachets don’t make you sick I would personally stick to them! Xx

Iron tablets put me in the hospital every time. I tried two types and an oral syrup and they made me very very sick, even when I was in a much better place with managing my HG. Push for an infusion for sure. You may feel sick for a few of days (so I’ve been told, they wouldn’t give me an infusion because my levels weren’t anemicly low yet and I was towards the end of my pregnancy anyways) which is better than feeling that horribly sick every time you take a tablet

Don’t let anyone pressure you to take things that make you sick. By the time you vomit it all up, barely any of the iron will have absorbed and you will just be more dehydrated and may struggle to eat anything for a while afterwards. Doing that every day is worse for your physical and mental health than being iron deficient. Getting iron through your diet (if you are able to eat) or transfusion (if they are truly worried they will offer it) is what worked best for me and I am rebuilding my iron levels postpartum and baby is thriving and getting iron through her own diet
