Get him a IEP or 504 for school . If he’s hyperactive or you have problems with behavior start him with therapy. It’s your choice to medicate or not but I would try everything before starting medication leaving that the last resort

@NiNi he has an IEP at school already I'll look into it because the doctor that diagnosed him didn't tell me much information on what's the next thing there gonna do with him

Getting energy out also can help loads. So sports are a great activity.

@Heather He plays sports but his asthma is keeping him from doing them right now

I've een told y another mom today that melatonin is a must if he is struggling with sleep and fatigue as well.

@Ghitta He sleeps throughout the nights and only wakes up to go to the bathroom and back to sleep with no trouble at all

It truly depends on what you want as parent and what he needs as the child. I’d come up with plan like stated about the 504 plan decide if medication is an option, get a lot of sensory things for him. See what, if any sensory issues he has at school as well, they also have a kicking band for a desk that my son uses and really liked

@Chelsea He has an IEP at school already his problem is that he can't sit still in class and he gets angry quick

I'd start looking into the benefits a d risks of medication. We chose to medicate my 8 year old because his adhd is impacting his grades.

@Heather I'll call the doctors and see what they tell me because my son has a issue sitting still in class and he gets angry real fast

If he's in school probably get on an IEP and have him a low dosage of meds and I can get on SSI for ur child who has ADHD and when on meds keep an eye on moods , and harmful thoughts . And make sure he does lost of things outside and running or riding a bike . My son is 6 years old and is diagnosed with ADHD attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and he's on meds and I have to keep an eye on his moods and emotions .

Honestly my son has the same problem. We got him a “calming corner” in class so he cans go there. We have him breathe through his anger or draw what he’s feeling. My son also seems to be able to sit when he has a pencil in his hand.

@Neisa He has an IEP already in school how would I do the process of getting him SSI my son is diagnosed with the same thing as your son

@Chelsea I'll have to talk to my son's teacher and see if she can do anything in the classroom for him because he can be fine one minute and then he gets angry when something doesn't go his way

So to be able to get on SSI u have to call the social security office closet to u and u ask them and tell them ur son has ADHD but it's hyperactivity attention deficit disorder and And look it up for hyperactivity attention deficit disorder. They will tell you behind the diagnosis of hyperactivity attention deficit disorder witch is like not listening , interrupting in conversations , being very impatient , jumping off of things , running around when not supposed to be , not sitting still . They'll be mainly ones that you need to tell them about when you go into the social security office to be able to get him on social security

@Neisa Okay I'll give them a call and go to the local office if they can't help me over the phone thank you so much for your help on this because it's my first time dealing with this

What is he struggling with I can tell you as a non medicated adult with ADHD is hard but setting your kid up with the tools he needs to get through the day is soooo much better then medicine if you're consistent with him learning that young helps I was diagnosed and medicated in the 2nd grade I see a therapist now because the medicine really does make you feel like a different person

@Teresa they diagnosed him with hyperactivity attention deficit disorder

@Neisa can you get SSI for ADHD my son has it for ASD but I didn't realize they covered ADHD?

But like what are his daily struggles it's hard to say what the next step should be because in my personal opinion I feel like therapy can really help versus the pill is just masking and covering up the root issues but if you can address through issues and find the tools that you need to dea with them on a daily basis then he won't have to spend the rest of his life medicated and you can help him navigate that versus him doing it by himself as an young adult

@Teresa He has trouble sitting still in school and at home and he gets angry real fast and he very inpatient and interrupts when people are talking

But on the other hand if the anger is like terrible and he's getting thrown out of class every week or something huge like that then he might need something to mellow him out but there's other stuff then amphetamines like CBD oil my mom used aroma therapy for me during the summers so I didn't have to be medicated and I liked that just like I said the meds really sucks the personality right out of a person

@Teresa He hasn't gotten thrown out of class he just gets angry when he gets something wrong or when the teacher tries to correct him

I still have problems not interrupting people not going to lie but yeah I mean you know your kid best if the anger and stuff I know that's really hard to deal with if its that bad and he really needs the pill then do what's best for your family but if it's something that you can do therapy and you know maybe take some time with and get those tools that yall need to manage then that would be a really cool option too

@Teresa He has an appointment with his doctors in a few weeks so I'm gonna ask them what they would recommend me doing for him I was thinking therapy would help him but my husband thinks the medication would help him

They will both help but both will take time therapy more then the meds but it will still take a few months to figure what meds are best that won't affect his appetite too much or cause chronic headaches very common side effect that I struggled with as a medicated child but the doc will probably recommend medication they're encouraged cause they get kickbacks but that's another story

@Teresa Thank you so much because I was so stressed out whenever I got the results from the doctors and I wasn't expecting it at all I'll talk to the doctors more about it and see what they wanna do

Oh trust me girl. I when I was younger. I had a ADHD and I was just like my son hyperactivity attention deficit disorder. I still do have ADHD but I don't show him any signs of it and I was on medication and stuff. But I do know you can get children on social security who have ADHD. You just don't want to make it a habit for them to stay on it for the rest of their life but they can if they have to, especially if they're not able to work when they get older

No I was asking for me I'm a stay at home mom and I was diagnosed in the second grade I already stay home and homeschooling my boy ASD age6 if I could get it for me as well it would help out so much
