Ask to see: - where the children eat and where they sleep - the menu - outdoor play facilities Ask how they'll manage your little one's naps as she'll still be quite young when she starts and most nurseries base their schedule on a one-nap day Ask how they keep you updated on your child's progress. Do they use an app and if so, which one and how often is it updated and with what information? What safeguarding measures are in place? What are their settling in procedures? Ask for time to look over all of their policies before you sign anything
Ratio to children per staff. Should be 1:3 Key worker system Is it free flow? Can children choose if they want to go into the garden… How many first aid staff and qualified in early years Menu - how they handle allergies (if applies) Nap times (staff must record naps and check on the children every 10 minutes)
Also - how many children are in the room? What has their staff turnover been like in the last year? How do they manage staff absence?

Is there an app with updates throughout the day
Does the door lock? Is there cameras? Is the yard locked? What’s the procedure for guests if they come to the door?
Ask about how they handle certain situations… specifically feeding, diaper changes (if she has a rash, etc) and especially what they do if she’s having a bad day and has a tantrum… and definitely ask how they handle incidents, as your baby starts to socialize with other kids, or if there’s an accident and baby gets hurt. Not that I’m saying these things will happen, but ask up front so you’re not surprised.
