Solids

I'm starting my girl on solids now as she's turning 6 months this weekend. I know you're supposed to introduce one plain vegetable at a time to begin with, but how many people just give them whatever you're having/got in the house on that day? E.g. I've given her banana, carrot, potato and broccoli so far, as I ate these things on those days too so I had them in the house. Banana was a hit, broccoli, carrot and potato not so much. Tomorrow, I'm thinking weetabix maybe, then courgette and, aubergine later in the week as I'll be eating it. Perhaps porridge at some point. Is that okay? How are people doing it?

When we start, we will be doing 1 thing for a few days. So broccoli for a couple days, carrots for a couple days and so on. They recommend trying one thing a few times before moving onto the next. Weaning charts can be good to guide too 🙂

We're doing one veg per day for 2 weeks then we'll mix it up a bit. I have heard not to start with too much fruit as they're sweet and then they won't want the veggies but honestly do what's right for you and baby, I don't think you can really go wrong as long as you're being healthy (no sugar or salt) so I don't see the issue with giving them what you have in house already

I suggest you get a good book about weaning which explains everything so that you feel confident. I read ‘how to wean your baby’ by Charlotte stirling-reed
