Sick

My 18 month old is sick, she started daycare about 3 weeks ago, and has had a runny/stuffy nose for about a week now, and recently just got a cough a few days ago, and when I took her to her 18M appointment, I told them I was concerned and she listened to her lungs and everything and heard no fluid and she doesn’t have an ear infection.

@Amber how do you make the warm lemonade?

@Sam if I remember correctly they suggested just like the lower sugar lemonade you can get at the store in the juice aisle and just a tad warm.

@Amber Thank you! My husband is like the worried mom in this situation (we are first time parents) and I knew the risks of daycare and he did not (even though I warned him of what could happen), thankfully no RSV symptoms

My daughter's RSV symptoms were just a cough, runny nose, and she would throw up from coughing so hard. Thankfully she faired well. She got it at 6 months old. It was hard and scary. Definitely does just sound like a cold at this point. Just keep an eye on it. My pediatrician mentioned how there are over 200 variants of the cold alone and they can catch a new one every 2 weeks. The most you can do is keeping an eye on it making sure symptoms aren't worsening too much. Help the congestion where you can...standing in the bathroom with a steam shower going, humidifier, nose aspirator, etc. For a bad cough we have done honey that has seemed to help. A lot of people really like zarbees Cough medicine but I do not think it helped my little any better 🤷‍♀️

@Amber I use the Hylands brand cold and cough, and that doesn’t help much, have you tried the mommy’s bliss brand and did it help, at least a little bit? I also use the Frida baby vapor drops, in her humidifier and that helps her to sleep at night

Our pediatrician did warn that the efficacy of those cough medicines isn't studied so it may or may not help. I haven't tried it. For a bit we will probably stick with honey or just finish out what we have. Sounds like you have a good handle on it!

@Amber you were a big help!! Thank you!!
