Starting solids

Hello, my baby is 4.5 months old. She's been having a lot a reflux since she was born and lately one of the doctors suggested to maybe start solids.. but I'm not sure. The baby shows a lot of interest whenever we're eating or drinking but she can't sit on her own. And now I'm confused what to do. When have you started solids for your babies? Thank you đź’›

We started at 6 months. But it probably took until 7/8 months before our baby would actually eat any solids. At 4.5 months I really wouldn’t be starting solids, it’s recommended to wait until 6 months. Did the doctor say why they suggested that?

@Harriet Rose so it could help with the reflux

Is your baby on formula or breast fed? I think there’s probably other things to try rather than solids. Babies digestive systems aren’t really ready for food at 4.5 months. I don’t see how it would help reflux.

@Harriet Rose you are right! That's why I wanted to ask other moms too. The baby is on formula fed

You could try a different type of formula and see if that helps? It could be that your baby is dairy intolerant or has an allergy to something. Also, formula has a lot more calories and fat than solids which your baby needs at this age. I would stick with the formula. Maybe seek a second opinion from a different doctor.

Weaned both of mine at 4 months (although it's against the guidelines) No problems and both still great eaters. Doctors will recommend to wean early if baby is suffering with reflux as it does make a lot of difference so I've heard. Do what you feel most comfortable with x
