Home Birth Experiences?

FTM here, I am really keen on a home birth and haven’t raised it yet with the midwife (16 week appointment tomorrow). Has anyone had experience of this? Was the midwife receptive to you wanting this? I’ve heard lots of feedback they don’t like it for a FTM… Obviously if there was a medical reason for needing to go to hospital I would but currently low risk.

I was with the home birth team and recommended them to everyone! The safest and (in my opinion) best option for birth. I had to transfer in but we knew with my medical background that might happen. If I have another baby I will 100% push for a home birth again!

Oh brilliant thanks - very reassuring. Will bring it up tomorrow with my midwife although ages away for me to make a decision yet I want to make sure I’m as informed as possible in advance!

My midwife was very pro home birth. I wimped out at around 35 weeks unfortunately - I ended up turning up at the hospital 10cm so a home birth would have been perfect for me in the end. I will definitely be trusting my gut and having one for my second!

Thanks - I might well be the same closer to the time! 😂

My friends just had a home birth with her first baby under Pruh, she had a great experience. You just need to be firm that it’s your choice and your labour! X

They were really supportive of a home birth for me. They won’t really talk about birth before 36 weeks though so be prepared for that. I went for it but ended up transferring into hospital for pain relief so definitely prepare for transferring in just in case.
