Honey! 🍯

Help me understand. I know honey isn't allowed at this age, but does that just mean like honey on toast or stirred into yogurt? Or does it extend to honey Cheerios as well? (Which has a miniscule amount bc I checked the back) Also, on Christmas day we're having honey roasted carrots and parsnips. Could my little girl have these because the honey has been cooked? Or is it just a straight no until they're 1? Help please 🙏 ❤️

I aren’t 100% sure but I have taken it literally ie nothing with honey in, so no honey cereal or ham ect til they’re 1 x

Oh gosh I didn't even think about ham....luckily shes not had it, but it totally would have slipped my mind!!

We've avoided all honey, regardless of volume

I think it’s just until they’re fully developed to handle the bacteria from it. I’m sure if they did have it in a tiny portion it probably wouldn’t do much but I think it’s safest to just avoid x

My little boy is 1 on 9th Jan and I’ll be giving him honey roast parsnips and carrots. The risk of botulism is minuscule and I don’t see what 2 weeks will do to him x

The current advice is to avoid all honey in all forms until they are 1years old due to the risk of infant botulism, however I think they are discussing whether to review it as the risks are deemed to be so minimal in the uk now. I personally won’t be risking it (unless the official guidance does change but that will unlikely be before my LB is one) but you can obviously do what you see best for you little one😊 x

I’ve avoided all honey even products that have any traces of honey. I would reach out to your HV for advice

I struggle to understand how its not ok today at 11.5months but its magically ok on his birthday🙈 Not something i eat or use but if honey was on something like cereal etc i would be comfortable giving my LB it now that hes close to 1 x

I was going to do honey roasted carrots at a big meal in November, changed them to maple roasted carrots instead. Not worth the risk. I’ve seen photos of babies with infant botulism 😢 I’n holding off until mine’s first birthday has passed.
