Weaning/solids

My baby has been having puree’s for 3 weeks and is doing really well. I was too nervous to do BLW but when should i be giving her more solid food?

If your baby is 6 months you can do it from now.

If you're nervous you can just start giving them chunkier purees, then slowly work to soft foods. They should be off purees after 8 months or it becomes harder to introduce solids.

@Hattie i’m so scared of her choking. The only solid think i have given her was 1 melty puff, just to see what she did with it. She tried to put the whole thing in her mouth and it scared me so much!

It's super nerve-racking! I am doing BLW but I feel like I have a mini freak out every meal. They get used to the textures and what size bites to take so quickly though I promise! If you spoon feed chunkier purees to start you might feel more in control before you let them take charge of their own bite sizes!

@Hattie I second this, infact I'd probably say more 7ish months both my nephews struggled with textures because they were on purees to 8 months. But it can be scary so I'd ease up to finger foods

If you prepare the food properly there’s actually not an increased risk of choking with BLW than purées 🙂 download an app called Solid Starts, it tells you how to safely serve a range of different finger foods to your baby.
