Low iron

At my booking appointment I was told I had low iron (level 12) and at my 28 week appointment it’s gone down to 6. Throught my whole pregnancy I was only taking pregnacare but some days I would forget to take them. I’m now 30 weeks. Should I ask for an iron infusion? Do I even have enough time to get my iron levels up in 10 weeks?

I was put on ferrous fumerate (210mg) after my booking appointment. It’s like 10x the strength of the iron in the pregnancare tablets- maybe ask about those?

@Charlotte I still have ferrous sulphate from when they first prescribed it for me but I feel like it’s not working because my stools aren’t dark and usually with iron they go dark.

Mine aren’t either but I’ve just continued to take them! Not sure if they’re working or not as I’ve just had my 28 week appointment last Thursday so haven’t got the blood results back but I don’t think the stool colour is a reliable indicator of whether the tablets are working or not

@Charlotte Okay, do let me know if your iron has gone up once you get the results.
