Bassetlaw Hospital

Hi all - does anyone have any positive stories about Bassetlaw? Pretty much every consultant appointment or midwife appointment I've had my whole pregnancy has been an absolute farce - so much so we were even asked if we wanted some info on how to complain 🙄 We've got an appointment tomorrow to write our birth plan ...after the appointment 2 weeks ago was double booked. We've never seen the same midwife and half of my notes were recorded wrong on my booking appointment which was a fight to get corrected. I've looked into transferring to Kings Mill but with being 36+3 we don't think there will be enough time to be rebooked etc.

Hey, we had the same issues with Bassetlaw. Even had a midwife tell us to abort our son because they thought he had Down syndrome. When it came to the labour itself though we didn’t have a bad experience with the staff, we found it was just during the appointments before having him x

Thanks @Ellie that makes me feel a bit better that the labour went ok. So much for it meaning to be such a wonderful time, they don't half make it stressful for you! X

On labour ward they were incredible with me and took immediate action when I needed an emergency section as my little one was in trouble x

@Charlotte Im glad you had a good experience and got the help you needed :) we've been in once for reduced movements and the people we met on the labour wars did seem really nice - they were the people who picked up my consultant and midwife had missed sending me for the bloods I needed for the appointment I had 3 days later 🙈 x

I had a lot of faff with consultant appointments, no issues with the midwives. But I ended up being admitted on A2 at Bassetlaw for a few days and then back a couple days later to be induced and I couldn’t fault anyone on A2 pre baby and after baby and the labour ward were fantastic! I had much bigger issues with the midwife’s at Donny to the point I would refuse to go to Doncaster in future pregnancies x

@Iona I had to tell the consultant I saw that I was 30 weeks pregnant and not there for IVF tests 🙄 x

I found antenatal shocking! Consultants were useless and documented everything in my notes incorrect even though I kept bringing it up. However my community midwife was great and made up for it. The maternity ward and Labour ward were fab though, only downside was short staffing x

@Leanne my community midwife (who I've met once on my booking appointment) put down my partner already had kids and we were an alcohol dependent household. And then she gave us the wrong date for our next appointment with her and then questioned why we were a week early ....didn't like it when I whipped out the appointment card with her writing on it. And she was never seen again 🤷🏻‍♀️ x

@Kathryn oh no that’s terrible bless you x

@Leanne we're at the point now we just rock up to appointments and just wing it and see who we get 🙈 who knows I might see her today 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 got to laugh about it or I'd be constantly crying x

I never had the same midwife either, it seemed quite unorganised. But on labour ward they were quite lovely apart from head midwife basically forcing me to have the pitocin drip which lead to an emergency c section😒

I had my daughter at Bassetlaw for a planned section in 2022 and they were amazing x
