Group B Strep

I went and got tested for a UTI, and I never heard back so I guess no news was good news. Until two weeks later they called me and told me that they tested my urine for Group B strep and it came positive. Normally they test at 36 weeks but they for some reason wanted to test early at 31. Now as soon as contractions start I have to get hooked to iv antibiotics while I have little man. Has anyone else had this problem?

Its not scary. Its extremely common. Have them test you again at the normal timeframe, I think 36 or 37 weeks. There are things you can do to try and get rid of eat, eating raw garlic etc the internet is full of ideas. I tested positive my last pregnancy and it really threw me for a loop. I was so upset. In the end it just wasn't a big deal at all and I agreed to the antibiotics to protect my baby. I even want them this time even if I don't test positive in case they are wrong... a close friend had her baby die at 1 day old because of complications from Group B strep and she didn't have the antibiotics. It is rare but it happens.

Yes I’ve done it with my youngest it burns a little through iv and just remind them that you have it the minute you go into labor and delivery so they start the iv right away it’s just something most women carry it isn’t a std or disease or anything

It's normal for some of us to carry the bacteria in our vagina. It's a preventative to not pass it to the baby

They tested me early too because of trace blood in my office urine dip. I tested positive, and the doc said there is nothing to worry about and nothing for me to do. Just have to have the antibiotics during labor.

I tested positive my first pregnancy and when I went into the hospital I reminded them to give me the antibiotics. It is not as serious as it sounds, it is totally normal and everything will be okay. Some say it burns through iv mine did not burn at all
