What's NOT worth buying?

What crap have you been sold or influenced to buy that was a complete waste of money, and what did you do instead? First time mum.

Sleepyhead and a next to me. We co-sleep 🙃

An actual cot, get the xl next to me that gets bigger then you can go straight to normal or floor bed after, any form of prep machine / rapid cool etc unless your formula doesnt come in premade, you can get 70 degree kettles n just cool boiled water n store it in fridge daily if you want to do hot shot method, Pampers! Gave my baby the worst reaction ever, same with sainsburys recently but not before then. Eco by naty are best in first size then i use a mix of them and mamia Plastic breastmilk storage bottles, discolour depending on sterilising method, scratch easily n arent visually appealing, pippeta jars are my go to now. And oh my goodness dummies!!! Unless your baby is very hard to settle then go buy some but just dont do it to yourself the wakes in the night for the dummy are now constant n shes decided to now only like the hardest ones to find 🤣

Oh n a changing table, get drawers the right height n plonk a changing mat n a portable one to kneel by bed, no need for the one use item nor are ever tall enough to save my back n I’m not at all tall!

The under mattress sleep monitor. Get a snuza instead, £80 new or £30 second hand and the only sleep monitor endorsed by lullaby trust. Also, don't get audio only monitor. As soon as they get mobile, you'll want a camera to check when they're being too quiet! Vtech £50 ones are fine.

Baby socks lol you don't need them for months

1 pair of baby shoes! Really don't need them til they're walking

Baby bath for me my LG hated it we went straight to the big bath and she now loves bath time with my holding her so she can stretch out. Baby socks are pointless I lost loads Best thing I got was the astronaut ceiling projector my LG lives it and lays watching the stars and settles her to sleep

These are all great! 🥰

Got one of those baby monitors that measures their breathing and it's supposed to alert you if they stop breathing 🙃 new mom anxiety much, never used it Baby nest that she was supposed to sleep in during the day LOL, got a good baby carrier early on, for naps bubs was like allergic to anything that wasn't a loving person holding her. Way too many black and white/high contrast toys. They literally need one and a baby mirror for toys. Way too many blankets and towels which were damn cute but she grew out of them in less than 6 months. Same for newborn clothes, cute newborn shoes and socks - forget the money, it was soooo overwhelming having to shift stuff every time she grows out of something Good purchases - proper nappy bin, baby carrier, portable white noise machine, breast pump but with bags for storage, nobody has the time to deal with a ton of tiny bottles that need washed, sanitised and dried each time.

Toddler bed, they grow out of it so quick there’s no point. Both my kids were in a cot and then into a single bed

Moses basket- grow out of them so quickly Nappy bin Baby bath- found bath seat was better

For me bath seat was a waste, way easier just to support their head in the big bath. Any clothes other than sleepsuits and stretchy warm jumpers and hats for going outside. Sleep sensor - never used it. Most toys aren't really useful until 3+ months.

@Ruth what would you go for instead of a Moses basket? We want to have bub sleeping in same room as us to start with and we can’t move a cot from the bedroom to nursery due to awkward doors/landings/corners- plus the portability seems useful- would want them napping downstairs near me during the day

@Rachel we used the carrycot from the pram on an adjustable moses basket stand. Lasts a few months longer, and most of them are certified sleep safe.

Mines grew out of the carrycot part of the pram and Moses basket at the same time
