Maternity Leave

Is anyone still entitled for 15 or 30 hours free childcare while on Maternity leave? I’m a bit confused about this because on Gov website they said maybe entitled for free childcare. I’m planning to take 6 months maternity leave because that’s the maximum time office can give me.

I think you still are as you’re still classed as working. My friend is on maternity leave at the moment and I’m sure her son is still getting the hours x

Are you in the uk? I’m sure it’s 9months they have to give you, but can take up to 12months, the last 3 will be unpaid. From September all children from 9months are entitled to 15hrs free. X

@Clarissa not all children, children from working families.

If you are on mat leave for the newborn and send your older child(ren) to nursery, you are eligible for 15 or 30 (30 if they are 3 years old).

@Clarissa I’m in the UK. Sorry I mean I get enhanced pay for the maternity leave. So the company will pay me full amount for the 6 months maternity leave.

That’s a good enhanced maternity pay! I had a look and it’s from September at 9months old for 15hrs. My little boy is nearly two, so I have to wait until September for his 15hrs. At the moment I pay for him to go two mornings a week, but he will be going two full days and one half. I’m very lucky that my mum is self employed, so she’s my child care when I’m working xx

@Thao my second due on August and my first turning 3 on September, he is on 15hours free child care at the moment, because on the gov web they said the date you start return to work will affect when you can get free childcare

@N 💞 I think people who don’t work get it already. As myself and my husband both work and not entitled to anything until September. Sorry I didn’t even notice it said working families, I just assumed it was all. Xx

I'm also confused about this. It says you're eligible for 15hrs if working and on mat leave and then underneath it says you may not be if you're on mat leave?!?! We've been counting on the 15 hrs for my toddler from Sept as I'm on mat leave til Dec but now wondering if we won't get the hours until I'm actually back at work. Applying and waiting to see what happens 🤞

@Clarissa all 3 and 4 year olds get 15 hours regardless of whether the parents work, from September the 15 hours extends to 9 month olds but that is for working parents, then from 3 years old working families get 30 hours.

If you already have the 15hrs, I believe come Jan 2025, you will get the 30hrs. It is Jan as the cut off for Sept funding is end of August.
