Gestational Diabetes

Well it's official. Got my blood test results back and two out of three of the draws were high. I have to meet with a diabetic educator tomorrow to see what the course of action is going to be. I'm only 9 weeks which is good to catch it so early but I'm scared I'm gonna have to do finger pokes the rest of the 7 months 😭 Anyone have experience with what this was like or what to expect?

I had it with my First baby and was a type 2 for my last 2 babies. I recommend the dexcom system or libre system.

I'm type 1, so I knew from the start I'd be monitored, but I'm curious, why did they test you so early for diabetes? Were you having issues that they thought could have been signs for early gestational diabetes?

Had it with my last pregnancy. Definitely agree with Cami! Get the Libre so you don’t have to poke yourself daily. If you don’t like it and rather poke daily remember to scratch the side of your finger (with clean hands) before you poke it. A nurse showed me the trick and you literally can’t feel it poke you after you scratch it hard. Also, end everyday with a Fairlife Core Power protein shake. It will help control your sugar levels during the nighttime because it is very high in protein. Also, don’t cut out carbs completely, it will make you feel horrible and your baby needs carbs.

@Angie we had gone to a fertility institute to get put back on letrozole for help conceiving. Before they gave me the prescription they ordered a full blood panel and it showed my a1c was slightly elevated. At my first prenatal appointment I had more bloodwork done and it showed that my blood sugar had gone down but was still elevated, so they had me do a 2 hour glucose test to test my sugars over time and it's showing they're still elevated unfortunately. I meet with the diabetic educator tomorrow to learn what exactly that entails but at my last appointment they said if the levels were elevated than that would mean GD 🙃

@Anne-Marie is the Libre a monitor or something that you wear? I work as an educational assistant in prek/kindergarten so I'm afraid of so.ething like that getting hit or yanked on 😬

I have 2 under 2 and mine are tugged on and pulled often. Very few issues. The meter doesn't leave a needle in your arm. Just a soft flexible plastic piece. They also have cute adhesive rings for them on Amazon.
