New at this

I have been diagnosed at 24 weeks, after I begged to midwife as I was 100 sure I had it on my first pregnancy. Today, I had a read after a very “light meal” salad with tuna, tomatoes some olives and half avocado. then had a plain yogurt with strawberries and the read came back 6.7 which was on target. I traveled to go on holiday in the evening and I had a homemade sandwich, that my parents brought to me when they picked me up. It was brown bread and ham and cheese. I then had a peach. I had a read an 1.5h hour after and it was 8.7 I got really upset as it was so high. Is it normal to have mixed reading or this is a bad start for what is yet to come. Thank you

I know that I personally can't handle bread at all, or fruit, so that kind of reading doesn't surprise me. Just remember that the first few weeks are testing what could work for you and how your body responds so high readings at first is normal until you find your routine

Hi! In the US so can't speak to specific numbers. But I will say that your numbers will vary especially at the beginning as you learn what your body can tolerate. Keep notes of food and your numbers and that will really help know what your ideal meals are. Suggestion for bread: make sure it's whole wheat/whole grain. Brown bread isn't necessarily fiber friendly from what the gd nurse told me. Also sourdough. Good luck! It can be a steep learning curve the first few weeks!

I'd always get spikes like this after bread or white carbs in general unfortunately, it will take a while to understand what your body can handle don't worry if you get the odd higher reading while figuring it out. Whenever you get a high just take a now of what you ate and you can explain to your midwife at your next appointment

Thank you, I thought brown bread was fine. I am in the UK but currently in Spain visiting family. I am just worried I restrict the diet with no fruit at all 😫 I will be careful with the bread mainly and see how the other foods settle. Thanks again, I really appreciate the help xxx

@Cristina it really depends on your body how bread goes. For fruit, berries are the best option as they are high in fiber too offset the natural sugars. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc.

@Cristina I like fruit as well and you can have it but just don’t eat with a meal eat it as a snack and pair it with some nuts or a bit of cheese then it should be fine.
