Fertility testing (UK)

Hi everyone, I am currently TTC and I want to get checked for fertility issues. My GP won’t do it as I have been TTC for a year, can anyone recommend any clinics in the UK for testing? It doesn’t matter if it’s private, I just need to know! TIA x

Hey, your dr should definitely do it. Once you hit 1 year you can go to the fertility clinic on the NHS, but you won’t be accepted without your GP having done bloods etc already x

@Rebecca it’s only been 6 months, after every failed cycle I keep thinking something is wrong and I can’t shake that feeling so I was hoping I could get tested earlier than a year. Thank you x

We managed to get some testing done prior to the year mark, after begging my gp. Got my partner scheduled for a semen analysis 6 months in, and I got bloods such as full blood count, thyroid and progesterone. You can go private for all of the above it’s just bloody expensive xx

@Rebecca how long did you wait before asking for your bloods if you don’t mind me asking? My partner has had his semen analysis and everything is fine on his end. Private is so expensive I was just having a look then and it’s £200 just for the initial consult and then £350+ per test xx

The pricing is just so crazy!! We started trying June 2023, I had full blood count and thyroid in November, and I had progesterone to check ovulation in January. I then had another set of the same bloods again in June so we could be referred to fertility xx

Look around at other fertility clinics, we paid £225 for both of us to have full fertility MOTs with bloods and semen analysis and a consultant appointment to discuss results afterwards.

We paid £450 for us to have all our checks and discuss next options etc , we then went onto private ivf n was successful

@Abbi hey which clinic did you go to for your treatment?

@Serry we used Manchester fertility they were amazing!

I paid £200 for a full blood count x

In retrospect we wish we went private from the beginning. Long story short, we first wasted 2 years with the GP who referred us to endocrinology after seeing my slightly raised prolactin level. After we finally got referred to fertility clinic we found out the appointment was 6 months wait. We then paid for a private consultation (with the same nhs consultant) to skip the queue and jumped straight to nhs funded ivf. Imagine if we did not pay.. but anyway it’s another story being stuck in the system with frozen embryos with them yet having to wait for 3-4 months for each transfer!! In the end the cycle didn’t work so we went private. Really wished we did that from the beginning to save so much frustration.
