Pumping

This might be a bit of a silly question but I’m really confused. If you’re not planning to breastfeed and only using formula, do you still need to pump? Like do you still have to get the milk out or will it kind of just stop on its own? I know this probably sounds really dumb but I’ve heard different things so I just really don’t know 😅

@Loron thank you. So you can start breast feeding or pumping and then just switch if you’re not feeling it? Or do you have to kind of wean off of it, I heard it can make you sick if you just stop :/

I pumped for my 2nd child for 5months as he was in nicu and when he came home , I was kinda over it lol so I just stopped and with my 3rd I did formula straight away never pumped anything off as if I did my body would then make more milk etc even the midwife advised not to do anything with them so I didn't and that soreness you feel just went away x

@Elle (i can't see waves) thank you so much! x

If you want to breastfeed and then stop for some reason. If you just stop it can lead to mastitis so please do Handexpress when uncomfortable or full. No need to pump as that increases supply but do Handexpress. If you don't plan on breastfeeding at all you don't have to worry. Your milk usually comes in 3-4 days pp and only by encouragement from either the baby or you. Otherwise no milk will come.
