Anyone else terrified to eat produce? šŸ˜«

The listeria outbreak is freaking me out!! Iā€™m in GA & havenā€™t seen any recalls here but Iā€™m still so stressed about eating produce. I feel like every day more items/stores/locations are being reported

So a lot of foods carry harmful bacteria if you wash and cook your food thoroughly you can kill the bacteria Ive been eating cooked veggies like stir fry them

Sad to report to you that there are recalls in GA I live in griffin and work at ingles more then half of our boars head meats have been recalled Iā€™m not scared bc itā€™ll happen no matter what itā€™s the risk you take whenever you eat deli meat pregnant or not recalls are happening we jus donā€™t pay attention to it

I work in infectious disease and have been hyper aware of the risk of foodborne illness my whole pregnancy. My coworkers recently told me about an app called ā€œFoodKeeperā€ thatā€™s run by the USDA and provides updates on new food recalls. Itā€™s been really helpful so far so I know what foods to avoid. For now, itā€™s probably best to avoid eating raw produce (veggies more than fruit, imo) and cook them to an appropriate temperature thatā€™s high enough to kill listeria. And, out of an abundance of caution, Iā€™d stay away from deli meat. Some restaurants use boarā€™s head meats for their sandwiches, so I would be hesitant to eat it even if itā€™s been heated up. Try not to freak out too much, there are still plenty of safe foods we can eatā¤ļø

@Kaylee Oh, definitely! I donā€™t eat deli meat so Iā€™m fortunately not worried about that part. But I do usually eat a bunch of raw veggies & now Iā€™m too afraid to!

@Taylor Thank you! Iā€™ll definitely download it! Yeah, I guess Iā€™ll be skipping the raw veggies for now. Which is a bummer bc thatā€™s my go to snack! I donā€™t eat deli meat while pregnant so Iā€™m glad I donā€™t have to worry about that too
