Countdown to Baby: Will the Membrane Sweep Work?

So today my doctor did my membrane sweep. I’m currently 39w 5 days. For now, I’ve just felt cramp-like pain and it doesn’t feel too good. Will it work? I don’t know, let’s see. The doctor said it can take up to two days for baby to arrive. If the baby is not here by August 9, they will schedule an induction. Fingers crossed! 🤞👶

i hope it works ! it worked for me with my first 👍👍

I got a sweep at 12 yesterday and my water broke at 2:30 this morning

I’m in the same boat, got a sweep yesterday, my due date is the 8th, if she doesn’t come by then I have another appointment the 9th to recheck my cervix and schedule induction. I’m not sure what is going on at this point, I’m trying to just wait it out before calling but my Ob but I’ve had really intense back pain and mild contractions since yesterday but they aren’t as painful as I would imagine they could get and are more than 5 minuets apart so I haven’t done anything about it.. I’m probably going to call my Ob though today to check in since I had contractions through the night and into this morning.. I just feel so unsure of how to tell if it’s early labor at this point. I really don’t want to rush off to the hospital to be sent back home

@Tina Same here!! After the sweep I started having very mild cramp-like pain throughout the day and just discomfort, and this morning all of a sudden it started getting a little more intense. It feels like “cramp cramp cramp” and it goes away and then it starts again minutes later. I don’t know if that’s considered contractions but they are still definitely too far apart.

I spoke with my OB today and she said that everything I’m feeling is normal. She welcomed me to call or come back for a check at any time but reassured me that I’d know once it’s real active labor, as they usually do! Lol I’ve experienced a lot of Braxton hicks this pregnancy from early on so i wasn’t sure if I was just having Braxton hicks or real contractions but my midwife said in terms of contractions to focus on the contractions that feel more like menstrual cramps, that are lower in your abdomen and the frequency of those over the feeling of my upper uterus contracting, she said if it’s just the upper uterus contracting it’s likely Braxton hicks. Hope that info is helpful for you too!
