My hospital drilled into our heads before we left the "ABC's" of sleeping Alone (on my) Back (in my) Crib
@Moira Thank you. My childbirth class at the hospital did not teach this, so I am glad you said something
@Katelyn it wasn't even the class I took, we were required to watch a few videos before leaving the hospital with baby.. how to install car seat, safe sleeping, and shaken baby/ sids
I was told by class and friends (coworkers) that they have to sleep on back...it's supposedly the stomach newborns can't sleep on
Ditto to what everyone else said. But also, if you're concerned about spit up, make sure you burp baby. And then maybe keep them sitting up for 30 minutes after a feed. Just hold them or use a boppy (with supervision). Then they'll be less likely to spit up when you put them down for a nap.
On their backs. Also suffocation is a higher risk when baby is on their stomach because of gravity! it blocks the natural flow of the airway.
On their back and usually they will turn their heads to either side. This helps the spit up run down and now down their throats.
Supposed to sleep on their back. SIDS is higher for stomach sleeping babies. Usually my babies keep their head to the side, so even if they spit up, they cough it up
