Combi Feeding

Hello, my baby is a month old. Due to health problems, I had to be separated from my baby for a few days after birth and he was fed on formula in the first 1-2 weeks until I could try breastfeeding. We now combi feed, offering the breast then if he’s still hungry we’ll give formula. When he gets the bottle he guzzles it (we take it off him to slow him down and wind). Following this, he’ll then bring up lots of milk. Does anyone have any advice on how he can keep the formula down? We’re using Kendamil.

Are you using the slowest flowing teat on your bottles?

Not sure that it’s a formula thing, I think it’s more a bottle issue as mine does similar and is BF and expressed bottles. We pace feed and have the tests with the slowest flow (0) to try and help, but it doesn’t always work x

Mine is combi fed and guzzles the bottle, I have just ordered some 0 teats to see if that helps xx

Thank you all! @Louisa @Mish @Emma Cunningham 💖

We also combi feed due to a similar situation. We go as slow as possible even when she’s livid for more! Loads of breaks and when she starts to seem like she’s getting full we wait longer. Often she ends up not wanting as much as we thought. A bit of a painful process. Also use slowest flowing teat. This all seems to help her keep it down.

Paced Bottle Feeding....once we started doing this, it made a huge difference for us

MAM extra slow flow teats size 0

We were using the kendamil ready made little bottles with teats but today changed to a normal bottle (size 0 tommee tippee) and were surprised as the flow is much slower (which is better). I am also hoping to combi feed but struggling with breast feeding my baby gets so frustrated by the boob

@Claire same! I also found the Kendamil bottles quite messy (that might just be my baby). My baby also gets frustrated on the breast. Nipple shields helped temporarily. It’s likely he’s also got a tongue tie which can cause issue with BF.

Thank you I started trying nipple shields last night and helping massively to get a deeper latch. My boobs are currently engorged so once that goes down who knows maybe milk will flow better and will still be able to feed him both ways. Good luck with your feeding hope things work out ok for you xx
