Glucose test coming up

I have my test in a couple days. I know that I have to stay away from carbs and eat protein but can I just drink a protein drink before hand instead? Anything I need to do? Do I have to fast or eat a certain time before hand? 28 weeks

My doctor told me to eat 2 hours ahead and eat something like eggs.

My doctor told me to eat normally because the whole point of it is to make sure everything is normal. If you do special things, it could skew the results.

Did they say you had to fast? If they told you to stay away from carbs and eat protein beforehand yours might be non-fasting bc mine is non-fasting too. I know she told me to eat protein based foods for breakfast before I take it maybe an hour before I take the test so maybe if yours is non-fasting you can do the same

My wife had to fast nothing After midnight the day before

@Aanyah I don’t remember exactly, it was about a month ago since my last appointment if not a little bit longer but worse case I guess I can call tomorrow morning

I have to fully fast before no nothing

I have my second one on Monday. I was told to eat my normal meal

My test is fasting, no food at least 8 hours beforehand (so no food after dinner since the test is in the morning)

Yea for mine they told me to fast no food after midnight n If thirsty can only drink water

If you do a protein shake, check the ingredients and be mindful of any added sugar. May be best to do a homemade one or have plain, Greek yogurt (no added sugar). Mine was non-fasting, and they said protein & no high sugar foods, so I ate some scrambled eggs about 2 hours before the blood draw. Good luck!

Honestly fasting can alter results. You want to truly see how your body is breaking down and using sugars. A lot of women who fast and take the drink on an empty stomach, tend to fail. If you typically drink shakes/ smoothies with protein, go for it. Up to 2 hours prior to your test is fine. Of course be mindful of the sugars in your drink. Once you start your glucose drink, nothing else til the test is over. Best of luck!
