Hello I do NST twice a week. And it measures the babies heartbeats and it also makes sure they are breathing correctly and it's steady.
NSTs are used to monitor the heart rate as well as accelerations and decelerations in the heart rate. A healthy baby will have variability in the heart rate but a baby that's under stress won't be able to manage the accelerations and they can detect that. If they didn't say anything, it means your baby's heart rate was healthy and not stressed. They also probably monitored your uterus for contractions so if they didn't keep you, it means you weren't having consistent contractions.
I get NST every week iam high risk this to monitor baby heart incase of any distress and if you can contration you may not be aware of . My Dr told me it's best to have them twice a week until they decide to my induction date which will happen befor 38 weeks . I'm 30 weeks now so it's okay to get this done I wish you so much luck
I don't know that much, but wanted you to know I also went to labor and delivery recently and they also did an NST. My understanding is it just measures baby's heartrate. They want to make sure baby is not in distress. If they were, that would change their treatment plan (like go ahead and delivery baby early). I can't help with the preterm labor thing because my first came at 41 weeks, but they were not concerned about my current baby coming early because I was not dilated, no bleeding, and had no amniotic fluid leaking.
