Preeclampsia is during your third trimester or birth your blood pressure is uncontrollable. It reduces blood flow to baby, less oxygen and nutrients. It can damage your organs, seizures or coma. It dangerous for both you and baby. But your doctor will stay on top of it.
I would recommend getting a blood pressure monitor for home and keeping an eye on it, it can get really serious really quick! I’m not saying this to scare you, but it’s truly nothing to mess around with.
Hemorrhaging is when you are bleeding uncontrollably. Pre-eclampsia is when your blood pressure is too high and can lead to eclampsia when left untreated and can result in seizures, stroke, coma, etc. Another common symptom of pre e to look out for is swelling. Some swelling may be normal, but for example if your ankles or feet are swelling and it leaves behind a dent when you press on it, this is called pitting edema and is a major sign of pre e. As for vision, I totally get you. My prescription changed over pregnancy and I haven't changed it yet. Pregnancy can change your vision in general, but if things get rapidly or dramatically more blurry or if you start to see black dots or holes in your vision go to L&D. I would recommend calling your doctor's office and asking the nurse to go over the concerns with you if you're not sure what they were for more clarification. They're probably the better place to get information from.
@Amber that sounds like hemorrhaging.
I highly recommend staying on top of this. With my previous pregnancy, I had a seizure on my bathroom floor and not once was I diagnosed with preeclampsia until after my emergency c-section when my kidneys were failing. Thank God for an amazing labor and delivery team, but I suggest doing whatever you need to do to prevent it. Good luck mama!
Last week I got diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure). They told me they will deliver my baby at 37 weeks, before if need be. I’m on twice a week monitoring until baby is here. As others have said pre-eclampsia can be very dangerous so it’s important to catch it. They may check for protein in your urine. Swelling especially in places other than your legs. My dr said a 10/10 headache that doesn’t go away even with rest, hydration, and Tylenol. Vision changes especially in the peripheral, she did say this isn’t super common though.
Preeclampsia is when during birth you just keep bleeding uncontrollably, it can be very dangerous for both you and baby. HOWEVER, inducing a little early has shown to significantly decrease risks for a healthy baby and mom. So I would definitely do what your doctor recommended for this!
