I’m applying for at least one out of catchment. Worth reading your LA admissions policy, though I’d assume they all work similarly. All applications get ranked according to admission criteria and then places are allocated to the top 30/60/90 or however many kids they can take. It doesn’t matter where you put it on choices 1st/2nd/3rd, it’s whatever school you fit into the top 30/60/90 of- if you happen to fit into that for multiple schools, then you’ll be given a place at the highest ranking school on your application. So for example you’d likely sit in the group to get a place at a school very close to you, it doesn’t matter if you didn’t put it 1st. So if you don’t get a place at the school out of catchment, you’d usually almost always get a place at the very closest school to you, even if you didn’t rank it 1st. It won’t get filled up on 1st choices, 1st choices don’t get priority over the actual admission criteria. Hope that makes sense!
Yes I plan too! Already worried about not getting into the school i like best 😢
Ok so it doesn’t matter who’s put it as 1 2 or 3 the children are treated kind of equally So you’re not treated less favourably because you put it as choice two if that makes sense!
Oh that’s so helpful thank you 💗 I’ll visit my local one then there’s 3 I like that are out of catchment so will visit those and put my favourite out of the four as number one now I know it doesn’t matter if I haven’t put my local school as choice number 1!
I'm applying for out of catchment, as the school in our catchment area we don't want. I spoke to our local school admissions and they said you can apply for any school as long as you can get them too and from. I'm not putting our catchment school down, (don't know if thats right or wrong) as we just don't want that school, and we can't make it work around working hours
We’re applying for one academy which doesn’t have catchment area, but it’s a primary and secondary school so she would be able to continue all the way through which we like. 2nd choice is our local primary school that we’re in catchment for.
We are applying outside as we only have one school in catchment area so we have to apply for them.
I’m applying for a school out of catchment as my first choice. It’s literally one street out of catchment and during the visit the head said they usually have places for our street. So I’m quite hopeful. I’m not even listing the one nearest to me because I don’t like it - it’s very large, seems chaotic and I met a few times children who were not well parented from there (using bad swear words at the age of 6-7, etc). The other two I’m applying for a catholic and CoE so, again, my area usually gets in these schools
We don’t have catchments where we live, after the higher needs kids and maybe siblings are placed it goes by distance. The secondary schools work the same way so primary has no real baring on secondary
