Induction

Hello, at my 36 week appointment things started getting a bit funky with my blood pressure - been in and out of hospital having it monitored. Have had all the tests for other things which are negative so think it is whitecoat/gestational hypertension. Baby is fine at appointments..Feeling healthy with no symptoms- but as I will be turning 39 weeks on Thursday they are thinking it’s wise to induce me rather than risk it creeping up more/developing anything else. I am going to go in Thursday and then see how I feel (booked in for induction) they said perhaps the balloon method - ultimately it is for a preventative measure of blood pressure creeping up (on labetalol now) BP is like 138-146/80-something most the time. Can be as low as 114 at home. Always higher at hospital!! Does anyone have advice? I keep thinking I should just trust the drs/midwives and just go ahead with it as I wouldn’t wanna put baby or me at any potential risks 🤔

I am on the exact same position but due this Saturday. I have personally decided to keep an eye on my bp and decline any induction methods unless baby shows signs of distress asI think she will come when shes ready. I think it’s important to trust your gut when deciding what’s best for you and baby. Consider all options but make sure you are not pushed into something you don’t want unnecessarily.

Ahh thanks for your reply. Yes, it’s a difficult one as my partner/family are kind of, of the opinion to listen to the drs as they will be trying to avoid running in to situations like developing preeclampsia. At the same time, I feel like as I’m being medicated now, is it necessary?!.. but also understand why the medical people would suggest to do it as I’ll be full term anyway so just minimising any potential risks (even if they are low!) argh. Lol. Would hate to say no and then something risky happens - but also don’t want to force things when I (or we!) could be okay. Such a tricky one! X

It's wise to keep an eye but BP can easily become a self fulfilling prophecy - you worry about it being high, so naturally it goes up. I wouldn't act on high BP alone, their main concern would he pre eclampsia but this can only be confirmed with blood tests and there are other symptoms. Just research what you can and make decisions there you're happy with. The care you receive is still your choice 🤍 x

Thanks - yes the preeclampsia has been tested for several times. I suppose it is the risk of developing it still as time goes on too - which id be very inclined to avoid happening! Hmm have done a bit of research today and hypertension alone is suggested as one of the medical reasons to be induced. Think I’m dreading any extra pain etc but ultimately just want to do what is right for myself and the baby! So hard to know!
