Baby Walkers, we using them?

Moms, what’s your take on walkers? I been reading a lot about pediatricians saying not to use them (Canada even went as far as banning them from being sold altogether) because they can delay a babies motor development. May cause baby to walk on their tippy toes, bad for joints, hard on the hips and result in various injuries amongst other things. I was a kid who grew up using a walker and knew many ppl who also used them as kids and were all fine but now I’m a bit fear mongered with my own baby that it may somehow mess him up. I received one during my baby shower and unboxed it and now I can’t decide if I should let him use it or not. What’s your take and are you letting your LO’s use one?

I used to run around in my Walker with a drumstick 🍗 times are different 😭😭

Personally my baby will not be using one. I also used a walker as a baby and turned out just fine. But just due to the research that has been done on them, and for the sake of following the advice of our pediatrician, we will not be using one with our baby. If I were in your position, I would perhaps sell the walker to someone who would use it if you decide to not use it.

We don’t use a walker since it’s no longer recommended. We do use an activity center though and limit his time in it for about 15-20 minutes at a time and only once or twice a day.

Same @Nicky

We didn’t use one either because of the new recommendations but if I would’ve gotten one gifted I might’ve just used it for short periods like 15-20 mins at a time and continue letting them move around on their own the other times

@Mollie @Elyssa im thinking the same thing and passing on it, older family members keep saying to use it (even in moderation) but idk my gut says I can just skip it since I’ve also read it doesn’t actually serve any benefit in helping them walk either

Just limit it if you do. My kids loved them, but I limited their time, so there was no worries. Also could look at the push walkers! My kids loved those, and didn’t impose risk for their growing/developing bodies!

I let my son use a walker from 4 to 8 months, which is when he started crawling. He began walking on his own at 11 months. I believe you should do what feels right for you. Using the walker gave me some “free time” while allowing him to explore and gain a bit of independence while under close supervision.

I got one then found out the controversy with them literally a week after and everything I found out made so much sense honestly so I didn’t end up using it. She literally didn’t like it and seemed very uncomfortable anyways

Our parents did a lot of things that we all survived that are dangerous. Just because we survived doesn't mean we should test our luck with our own children. A good example is water. A lot of our parents gave us water as babies and now with more information we know that can kill babies. My mom even wanted to give some to my son and I had to explain how dangerous that was. A lot of things she did with us makes me wonder how my brother and I made it to adulthood 😂 In my opinion, the more information we get, the better we do for our children and one day they will learn even more and hopefully do even better for theirs. That being said, you are the mom so make whatever decision you think is best. Use the walker if you want but I personally won't be using it. There are alternatives that are better.

I had one as a kid but didn’t use one for my baby, she learned to walk perfectly fine. Plus there is no room to walk around anyhow that walker would have been in the way and the amount of baby proofing I would have had to do then would be terrible.

I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old, I never bought one. Both my boys walked before 1. Just buy the push walkers

We used it with our son and he walked at 9.5 months. My daughter is 7 months and almost walking. So I think it depends on the kid? Obviously we don't leave them in there for extended periods of time and make sure their feet are flat on the floor.
