I am trying so hard to ween my daughter right now. We’ve been feeding 3 big meals and snacks in between as well then I give her milk after each feeding and water cups in between snacks. But I’ve been having a hard time figuring it all out bc she eats so well during the day but still wakes up every 2 hours at night for milk. Idk if it’s bc I’m breastfeeding her and bf babies just continue to eat a lot more but I AM TIRED!! I feel like it’s a comfort thing bc teething but idk we’re going through it over here lol My formula fed son was great and started sleeping through the night or only woke one time during the night once he started eating bigger meals.
Yes! See this wonderful article we found when we were like wtf is going on???? https://mvpediatrics.com/Weaning-From-the-Bottle-Before-12-Months#:~:text=a%20cup%20instead.-,Children%20normally%20show%20less%20interest%20in%20bottle%20feedings%20between%209,Throw%20the%20bottle%20down
I usually do food first then offer milk. Some days she won’t eat food other days she will eat all the food. So far we’ve been doing two meals with snacks and breastfeeding throughout the day. Before bed she will get 6oz of milk. No food.
I think next month we will wean off milk before bed. Just give her one last meal
@Unique I think the waking up could be a comfort thing because my daughter usually sleeps through the night, but she will wake up a bit fussy then latches and falls back asleep. So def not hungry
Personally no, but my daughter is happy to eat both her milk and foods
You shouldn't decrease milk til 1.
I've seen a lot of information about how you shouldn't decrease milk until 1, but at our 9 month checkup her pediatrician told us we were good to start weaning off breast milk, and we could switch to a solid food and cows milk diet if we wanted to. She said she was okay with that because our baby's iron levels were really good. My baby has naturally become less interested in breastfeeding, and we just decided to start introducing some cows milk mixed in a bottle with breast milk to get her used to that. We have enough breast milk in the freezer to slowly taper her up on cows milk over about a month and a half. I feel like every baby is different, and it's better to follow their cues as long as they're healthy. But, again, this is something that we discussed with her pediatrician and got the okay to do.
Yes! It’s been so hard to know what to do 😭 my son is 10 months 3 weeks and he’s been eating three (relatively big) meals a day with snacks in between for the last month but still drinks so much formula. Our daycare said we can taper him because he’s obviously eating meals at this point but I don’t exactly know the right way to do that. We recently started giving him the 3.5oz of formula during lunch and that’s been working well, so this is his bottle schedule 7am - 4oz at wake up 9am - breakfast / fruits and water 12pm - big meal / 3.5oz 3:30pm - snacks and 3.5oz 6pm - big meal with water 7:30pm - 4oz and bed Hope that helps! Not sure if it’s the right thing to do but 🤞🏻 it seems to be working since he’s already walking 😂
