@Ellie they do at night really when you start to potty train them
@Rachel you don't have to "drop a bottle"just change it to a cup and move it to supper time
Ideally they would stop using bottles by 18 months. Once we started giving cows milk we just offer with meals. But there’s not an age they need to stop drinking milk generally.
There’s multiple ways to handle this. Milk isn’t a nutritional requirement at this age, but it’s a convenient source of protein and calcium so it’s good to consider keeping in the diet. You don’t want them to have more than 16-24oz per day. Ideally they should only have water at night after their teeth are brushed, so finish milk before brushing teeth. Ideally they will eat healthy solids for snack instead of a bottle of milk by itself - so I would consider switching to a straw or open cup whenever you’re able, and only offer milk with meals/snack, and otherwise they can drink water throughout the day.
Lg is 2 still has a morning milk and some throughout the day. They can carry on having milk if they enjoy it
My kids get unlimited cows milk for as long as they want. Now we do get rid of the bottle by 12 months and move to sippy cup and then open cup but we don't limit actual milk. We currently go through 4 gallons a week for my 1yo and 3yo
We actually dropped the bedtime milk and he just has one in the morning (he’s just turned 2) reason for this is because he’s a heavy wetter and was leaking through most nights so cut out fluids before bed x
Thanks all I think I’ll see how things go for now as he was only 1 last week and has been off the bottle and using a sippy cup for like 3 days so we’re very early on in this process but just wanted to check what ages were best and when xx
How old is he? And do you have any tips for switching to cows milk? My LG is about to turn one and I want to introduce cows milk. She’s only had breast so far though, doesn’t like formula
I’m 34 and I still love a glass of milk 😅
@Louise going from breast to milk I would just offer a small cup a few times a day. May take some guessing to figure out what she will want to drink from. Id try open cup or straw cup to start and then sippy cup if she doesn't like those. Unless you want to pump and mix I would just offer straight milk. If you already pump and feed in a bottle though then you can just start swapping an oz with regular milk and slowly work up
@Louise he was one last week We just mad a straight swap as he was having it in cereal for a while so was already used to having it
They don't ever need to be off milk if they don't want to be
