Not loving my midwife…

We had our 25wk midwife check up today and every time we go i take a list of questions. Every time she is late for her next appointment and doesn’t have time for them so i just get ‘don’t know’ ‘i wouldn’t’ ‘it’s probably fine’ rather than proper answers. One of my questions was can i use a SAD lamp during pregnancy, as i’ve heard it can be good for depression in pregnancy (and i get quite down in winter months anyway) and she said no she doesn’t think i should. But then followed that with ‘no one’s ever asked me about them and what exactly do the lamps do?’ So she obviously hadn’t heard of them/doesn’t know the effects…! Does anyone else feel the same at their appointments, or is it just my midwife? I’d like to get thorough, educated answers and she doesn’t seem to know much or have time for them.

She sounds awful, I’m sorry. Can you request another midwife? I Google most of the questions I have as there is usually research available for you to make an informed decision on things, if you like reading medical journals that is!

Yeh unfortunately I found this even up until giving birth with my first I ended up having to do my own research as I didn’t really get much from the midwife. Even now being high risk due to my previous birth in January I don’t really get much information. However when it actually came to giving birth they were all amazing and I can’t fault them! Without them me and my LO possibly wouldn’t be here.

You are well within your rights to request another midwife. This is your journey and you just need to advocate for yourself! X

I saw that my hospital has a drop in clinic with a midwife, you could see if your area offers that? Sorry to hear you’re not having the best experience 😔 x

Ask for another midwife! She doesn’t sound very helpful at all! You need to do what’s best for you! And should Feel supported!

Thanks all! I’m going to ask for another midwife tomorrow, i think you’re right, i need to feel supported and reassured considering this is my first pregnancy and i’m new to it all!

This is my second pregnancy and my midwife this time around has been completely different so much so I made a complaint to pals and was offered a different midwife! X

@Charlotte who is pals? I’m not sure who to complain to except the midwife unit where she’s from
