Typically they recommend an extra 300-500 calories a day. But I agree with Colette, don’t under eat or restrict. Your baby needs calorie to grow
Btw I’d like to add, I read you’ll gain around 2 stone whilst pregnant but that’s mainly just fluids and the baby themselves x
@Colette oh of course! I definitely wanna be eating enough, it's just super daunting as most places have said I should be eating '300cals more than my maintenance cals' which all in all adds almost 1000 extra calories to what I'm used to! I definitely won't be under eating, I just wondered if there was a set way to kind of work it out x
Check out iifym.com. I think they have an option for pregnancy. If not, I would ask your provider if you should be adding any extra calories. I don’t recall needing to add calories, but I did focus on eating the foods I knew were right for my macros while eating when I was hungry. Focus on your protein. It has so many benefits for pregnancy including helping the elasticity of your vagina to help prevent tearing during labor. If all else fails, I would look for a fitness coach who focuses on pregnancy on Instagram and reach out to see if they have insight that could be helpful
Lay off calorie counting whilst your pregnant unless you struggle to put on weight. Just stick to intuitive eating, you will naturally want to eat more food, it takes a lot of energy for your body to grow another life, eat when you feel hungry, ensure your calorie sources are varied and balanced in your diet. Don’t shy away from carbs/fats or fibre and eat plenty of protein. If your craving something let yourself indulge. You don’t have to eat for 2 so don’t go crazy overboard 😅
I’d say to focus the least you can on calories whilst pregnant and more just try and be healthy and hydrated for baby. Even give in to your cravings here and there
