I have been diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Had severe itching in soles and palms and couldn't resist scratching continuously. Rang triage and they called me for a blood test on Saturday evening, took 4-5 days to get blood test results. I had elevated levels of albumin and bile acid and they have concluded it as ICP (Obsteric Cholestasis). I am monitored very closely and had to give bloods twice a week to ensure that my levels are not significantly changed.I am currently 34 weeks and still under regular monitoring. If you're having a strong itching and don't think it's because of skin stretching (no rash), please check with your midwife immediately. It's good to get it diagnosed early.

I had the same thing last week (30 weeks) Itching everywhere - all day and night. It felt like a light tingling. Not enough to panic but enough to make me feel restless and irritable. I thought it was a food allergy. The pharmacist wouldn’t prescribe be antihistamines. So I range the number on the front of the midwife book to see if they could help. (Which I am so glad I did) this is my biggest piece of advice! Just give them a call if you haven’t already :) They got me in for bloods straight away with results 4 hours later. My bile acid levels were 29 instead of around the 10 mark. I rang them back 3 days later because the itching hasn’t stopped and they prescribed some great anti histamines which has done wonders. I have my consultant app. This Thursday 🙏

@Holly That's good, they prescribed chlorophenamine to me as well. I haven't started taking them yet as I am currently able to manage it with cold shower at night +applying aqueous cream with menthol. You will also be monitored regularly and ask all your doubts to the consultant if they talk about complications. Don't worry when they talk about extreme scenarios, at least it will help you to understand how fast you need to react. My last week's bile acid results are still elevated(16) and they referred me to liver ultrasound this week. I also have a consultant appointment tomorrow.Hope everything goes well with you and your bile acids slowly drops down

The ICP Facebook group is really helpful. You can join if you’re undergoing testing or need more info, as well as it being a group for those diagnosed. If you have itching then ring triage or your midwife and request liver and bile blood tests x
