I don’t understand

Hi, I’ve been exclusively BF my baby, last month we found out that my milk wasn’t enough for him. He was in the 5th percentile at 14lbs 12oz at just a little over 6 months old. Doc said supplement with formula, so we did and in the 4 weeks since then my supply really tanked. I pumped since he was temporarily on bottle and eventually I went from 1-2 oz combine to like 3-5 ml…I have a high protein diet, I drink 1-2 body armors a day, lots of water ( my cup is like 32 oz and I refill it about 2-3 times a day) I’ve tried liquid IV, oatmeal daily, and nothing absolutely nothing has helped and the last 2 lactation consultants I’ve talk to gave me 2 different flange sizes and said keep trying and that was basically it….im heart broken because I don’t know what to do and it’s really stressing me out which obviously doesn’t help. I know the formula is helping a lot, he’s now 19 lbs 6oz which I’m thankful for, gotta do what you gotta do but i just feel like a failure because of the sudden tank. If there is any advice or anything anyone can share I’d really appreciate it.

Have you replaced your pump parts at all?

You’re not a failure so even though it’s tough try not to think that way. Have you tried supplements? I take milk a plenty and goats rue. Also do you pump every time he feeds? Or are you giving him the bottle?

You're not a failure, mama. Keep going if you feel led to do so, but remember YOU'RE important too, and needing your time back is OK. Formula is a helpful tool, and it doesn't make you less of a mama if you're supplementing with formula. You're rocking the whole mama thing, by the way!

@Ryann yes I’ve had 3 different ones and I still can’t get much when I pump

@Patricia so usually I’d just latch him and he’d be fine for a while but would pop off and on sometimes. After the appointment I would pump and store it while his dad gave him formula in a bottle. I’ve tried pump princess and I’m still on parentals, I’ve also tried some from a brand called mommy’s bliss and the lactation cookies and even homemade lactation treats.

Have you tried hand expressing and expressing often enough ? Coconut milk , take a fish oil, sunflower lecithin, and power pump keep stimulating and don’t focus on what you’re getting because u won’t make much milk being stressed trust me in in the Same boat my supply tanked and slowly but surely I’ve doubled it and I think alot of it’s due to stress . Also u can ask ur doctor about domperidone I just started it 2 days ago and will post my experience in a month Regardless every drop counts and my babies bottles are still a lot of formula as I’m still not making enough so i understand. Make sure to pump through the night ! And I end each session with hand expressing. Also use a hospital grade pump like spectra
