I follow an Instagram account called dogmeets_baby which shares loads of tips! Definitely recommend x
I have two high energy collies, one is 4 and the other is 18 months, I didn’t change anything! My baby came 3 weeks early unexpectedly so didn’t actually have the time to prepare them, but I’m so glad I didn’t! I put baby in his pram and gave them attention when I first came home, and acted no different! When they got a bit excited, told them to get down or on their beds and within two weeks, they aren’t that bothered about him xx
I also have a springador and a springer spaniel. When we had our first we only had the springador who was amazing with our baby but we did sometimes just sit at night holding a doll haha just to show her she has to share our cuddles. also, once the baby was born my husband took the first vest the baby wore back home while I was still in hospital and placed it in the dogs bed. The final thing we did was buy the dog a new blanket (as ours loves blankets) and have it to her as a gift when she was meeting the baby for the first time so she associated meeting the baby with positive things x
When baby is born our parents had our dog for a few days, we had a muslin that smelt of baby the first day and we gave it to the dog to get used to the smell etc, it’s best to introduce asap though as after a few days they wasn’t bothered anymore. Lots of dog toys, treats distractions etc! It’s best to let the dog smell have a little hello look and that’s all they want to do. But definitely walking with the pram etc before.
