Recently diagnosed

Hi All! I was told on Thursday I have GD, but I don’t have an appointment until 6th Nov. I have no idea what this means for me, what can I eat/can’t I eat etc. Has anyone got any top tips for me for the next two weeks? So worrying!! 😣

I posted about this a couple of days ago and got lots of good tips. Might be worth having a look at that discussion. They seemed to have helped and my blood sugars have been okay since then

I was told last week, still no appointment, I’ve been cutting back on sugar, getting low sugar items. Cutting back on carbs etc xx

My midwife told me to enjoy food until I had my education session lol. You can start to make more sensible choices but don't completely cut carbs out as an example as you actually need them. Aim for 30-50 grams for your main meals and 15-30 grams for snacks in between meals

Thanks so much everyone! I definitely like the thought of enjoying food until the session @Rachel haha

i have it and i can eat absolutely anything i want nothing seem to effect it! i’m convinced i don’t have it😂😂xx

@Lexi no that’s me!!!! Nothings triggered it yet and tbh I feel like it should be 😂

The nhs advice isn’t great to be honest that websites jess linked was amazing for me I followed the Facebook too i swear if it wasn’t for there guide I would’ve been struggling I stayed diet controlled and never got a reading out of range, The key is to pair carbs with fats and proteins etc, honestly gduk was a god send for me amazing information

Also be aware that if you’re eating normal, and have loke a chocolate bar for example, you might test and hour later and the reading is in range but you could’ve spiked and crashed within that hour !

Before I give tips I just want to say I got my results on a Saturday. They were clear as day. But since the doctor wouldn’t call me until Monday, I had some chocolate chip cookies Sunday night. A farewell send off 😂😂😂 Tik tok was very helpful with tips on snacks to eat. I think the most helpful thing that came out of my meeting with the diabetic nurse is DONT SKIP YOUR BEDTIME SNACK! Make sure it’s high in protein. Last night I snuck some grapes in with my snack and my fasting levels were high 😫. But I’m only on day two and I’m trying to be kind to myself. A lot of it is trial and error.
