Metformin

Hi everyone, hoping someone here was paying more attention than I was. I have been prescribed Metformin for GD today as I can no longer keep it diet controlled. There was a bit of drama getting the prescription but sorted it all out now, only problem is my diabetic midwife rang me at work and I was doing 5000 things at once and she told me how to start taking them. Can someone confirm if this is right because I am now not a 100% sure on the order of things Day 1-3 one in the morning Day 4-6 add one in the evening Day 7-9 add another one in the morning so two in the morning Day 10 add another one in the evening to get me up to 2 twice a day. Baby brain has very much set in and I'm now not sure if the middle bit is the right way around

Wow that's complicated. Mine was . Take one in the evening. If no improvement after 3 days , add another. If no improvement after 3 days, add 1 in the morning , and another in 3 days if still no improvement. I couldn't tolerate the morning ones, though, so I now have 2 on an evening and 4 units of insulin

@Alana I think because my main problem is the mornings that's why they wanted me to start with the morning first maybe? I don't know. I've been on them before but that was many years ago

Yes that’s how mine had to start a few weeks ago !!! Good luck 🤞 x

That’s exactly how mine started! I’m on 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening

Perfect I just thought I would check with people who are saner than I am right now lol

@Holley mines only morning fasting 🤔

@Alana suppose it depends on how mad the levels started going. I spiked off a bloody salad the other day it's been mad. But I will say first dose this morning and it's the first morning in over a week that my breakfast didn't spike

I dunno. Maybe different trusts do it differently. My fasting was like 6.7 ish daily. Now it's 4.9 with 2 evenihg metformin and evening insulin 4 units. X

@Alana yeah my fasting levels with the occasional spike was about about 4.4-5.2 it was breakfast and lunch that was becoming a problem for me

I’ve been on metformin for 3 years - make sure you take it with meals or the reflux is terrible!

@Daisy yeah I saw that in the instructions. I was given it for a year about 4 years ago to try to help with my PCOS symptoms but it didn't really work. Never taken it for blood sugar reasons
