I think it’s an old wives tale that diarrhoea means labour is near. I remember googling this with my first and it turned out I actually had salmonella, I wasn’t particularly poorly just couldn’t stop going to the loo. I think bowel habits change throughout pregnancy just with changes in hormones. That said, defo speak to your midwife or triage if you’re worried xx
I’m on iron tablets that make me constipated so have to take lactulose to counter this, but then I end up with the opposite problem. For me, it seems to be a mix of hormones and medication that causes it, but my midwife doesn’t seem too concerned. I’d still speak with your midwife nonetheless for some advice as everyone is different
@Mia I agree - I think when you're literally about to go into labour some bowel issues can occur owing to baby's positioning, but it's definitely a sort of internet wives' tale I've seen recently too that diarrhoea is like a foreshadowing of labour!
