What's the best way to start losing weight on a budget?

Hi everyone! I’m on a journey to lose weight on a budget and could use your support. I’m 5'1" and recently weighed in at 101 kg, which I know is higher than it should be. I received a diagnosis of severe obstructive sleep apnea on September 30th, and I also have PCOS, high blood pressure, asthma, depression, and type 2 diabetes. I’m determined to make positive changes and am looking for low-cost, healthy, and diabetic-friendly recipes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance for your help! X

Calorie deficit and portion control helped me I ate a lot of chicken, quinoa and veggies

I like chicken, but I only like certain vegetables

Portion control and work out at home. If you do 10-15,000 steps a day that also helps. I’ve done these and lost 35 lbs already 🫶

I have lost 20 lbs in 3 months with portion control and distracting myself when I want to binge. I force myself to eat slower. And eat more filling things first so I consume less. And if I find myself bored and wanting to raid the pantry I find something to clean instead.

Go keto. Avoid carbs when possible (just eat starchy veggies and the carbs u can't avoid). Stop all sugary drinks. Make it a new years resolution you won't drink anything but water, herbal tea without sugar or milk or cream, or black coffee. Don't PURCHASE any "candy, pastry or donuts" that come in a wrapper or a drive through, or a grocery store or in a bulk bin. Only treat yourself occasionally if it's with company or someone bought it for you. Pre-plan every lunch the week and nights before and have it ready first thing in the morning to take to go. Make sure your breakfast has eggs, as many as you want. Learn how to cook eggs so they're delicious to you. You can add turkey or hamburger or pork, make an omelette. No toast, no pancakes, no carbs. You can do sausages (worse for you than ground meats) but no bacon it's too high in calories unless u have just 2 pieces for flavour. Look for high protein yogurt, add some berries to it. Roast veggies for dinner. Eat meat.

I use the MyNetDiary app. Its free. You can log your goal weight and timeline and it’ll tell you how many calories a day in order to meet your goal in the set amount of time. You can also scan barcodes on your food/ingredients to track specific calories. But for your budget, I’d say focus on cheaper meats and mix them with things like pasta or salad. And portion control is the biggest thing. I cut out sugary drinks to not waste calories

If you're going to eat carbs, eat a salad or non starchy veggies first. Then your blood sugar won't spike and u can have the pasta or whatever

You and I are of similar weight and height. Good on you for wanting to get healthy! What I have found to work is a combination of low carb and intermittent fasting. I've only been doing it for for a few months but already I have lost weight and my cholesterol and insulin levels have gotten better. As a busy Mom I find it really easy to do. I keep track of my calories on MyNetDiary. I do the same thing @Sarah May suggested and it helps a lot. I read the book How to Fast Like a Girl by Mindy Pelz. I found it really helpful. She also has a great YouTube channel with lots of information IF and how it helps your body. I also have seen a cut in my grocery bill so that's been awesome!

Fasting doesn't even have to be extreme. Just make sure to stop eating 2hrs before bed minimum! And wait to eat breakfast until you are actually hungry. You should always be going at least 10hrs (12 or even 14 is better, if you can do more that's great!) without eating. If you are wanting to eat something (it's probably sweets) outside of your fasting window, tell yourself, you can't have this NOW but you can eat it later when you're done fasting (if you still can't resist). Number one rule, don't buy it, if it's not on your shopping list. Stick to the plan! If it's not in your house, you won't be eating it and that's half the battle! Try experimenting with alternative low sugar low calorie deserts. You can go the whole day staying under your calorie count and ruin it because of desert.
