Formula

My LO is 6 weeks old and EBF, he is constantly feeding nearly every 30 mins every evening and it’s starting to get me down. I’m feeling sore and like I can’t spend time with him full and content.. my partner also can’t spend any time with him after work as he just cries and mooches. He settles completely when being fed (so not colic), I also know about cluster feeding but this seems very persistent and I feel like he just likes to snack in the evenings… I now want to introduce some formula for a better routine with feeding and I’m looking for some advice on how to do this without getting engorged and which formula might be best? I would like to still give him some pumped breastmilk (he does have one expressed bottle a day already so will happily have a bottle) but I would find pumping all feeds way too stressful. He does also have reflux but I don’t think going on an anti reflux milk is necessary yet as we have commenced on omeprazole…

Could he be just comfort feeding on you? My little girl started doing it so I tried a dummy instead when I knew she'd had enough and it really helped. It's been a week now and she's off the dummy and has gone back to a normal feeding routine x

Just want to say I’m in a very similar position with my almost 7 week old so I can sympathise. Literally just wants boob all evening. When my husband was giving him a formula bottle in the evening in the past (before he went back to work) my supply adjusted pretty fast and if I felt a bit engorged then I’d pump for 10 mins. You’d probably have to keep the evening bottle pretty consistent to make things easier in terms of your supply. We use kendamil goat as apparently goat milk is the closest to breast.

Agree with first commenter; I tried a dummy and would not feed again until at least 2 hour mark (now it’s 2.5 sometimes) and she’s ok in that time between.

He does use a dummy well in the day but in the evenings it just doesn’t seem to work when he is mooching, he spits it out and cries so I feel like I’m ignoring his hunger cues and I get really paranoid about doing that! I don’t know if maybe I could be a bit more persistent with the dummy! I was looking at kendamil goat milk too thank you!

All newborns are usually extra fussy in that evening window! They just won’t sleep, or go in and out of sleep. I say stay persistent. As long as they’ve had their bed time feed, wait at least 2 hours. That’s what I do
