ASD in babies

Hiya everyone, we’ve had a rough couple of months with my youngest, he’s 5 months tomorrow and the health visitor has expressed concerns over ASD… I didn’t even know that could have concerns at this age and I’m quite worried, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this with their little ones and what the outcome was? Thank you, from a worried Mama x

Sorry I haven’t experienced this but that’s absolutely crazy how on earth can they say that with a baby so young? That makes no sense to me!!

Honestly, this is just absolutely ridiculous from the health visitor. What a way to make a still post-partum mother worry! 🫠🫠🫠 If I were you, I’d ignore her. Typically within babies, a lot of developmental stages ‘look similar’ to ASD traits but it’s just babies exploring the world and learning new things! I’m sorry they’ve worried you like this - it makes me so frustrated! X

I also think that’s too ridiculous! May I ask why she is concerned?

I don’t think it’s ridiculous. My son was diagnosed at 3 however there were kids that went to the sen base attached to the nursery where their parents had known for a while or there had been ongoing health concerns. My friend for example her son has epilepsy and heart problems and the asd was just part of that. Why do she think your baby may have autism? I’d imagine eye contact and social interaction would be the main concern. Fingers crossed you will have access to early support. I would ask your hv what help there is out there. Look at your local offer and children’s centre.
