I feed every 3h as my little one is fussy. Works better for us and we try to get all her feeds in the day so she sleeps through 🤞 are you feeding formula? Im feeding her expressed breast milk which apparently 4/5oz is the most you can give per feed.
Does yours take the full feed?
We bottle feed on demand but it’s roughly every 3+hrs. I look for fussiness and have in mind when she last fed. At night we do delayed gratification so she doesn’t associate waking up with a feed and will start to drop night feeds herself.
4/5oz every 2/3 hours usually! She does still bf a few times a day too.We sometimes get a 4 hour stretch before the first wake up at night. I do sometimes wonder if she should have more because I see some babies on 6/7oz but she pulls after when she’s not hungry so I just follow her lead x
So up until the last week or so I was doing 2-2.5 hourly. She has a big morning feed but then I'd feed her sooner than she needed and then she'd drink less and need feeding sooner. She'd have 120-180ml at a time so it was really variable too. I've now started pushing that second feed later, based on when she gets fussy for it. So now she feeds 3-4 hourly, and has 210-240ml a time usually so a bit easier to predict. Because that second feed is bigger she can then go longer til the third feed etc etc. So we went from 6 bottles a day to 5 bottles a day. Still drinks a similar amount over 24 hours, still sleeps through the night (barring our 4am wake up which is the sleep regression and same whether we have 5 or 6 bottles 😁
We bottle feed formula every 3 hours. Sometimes a little earlier if he’s really hungry. Offering 8oz (240ml) at a time. He has his last feed around 10/11pm.
Whether my baby has close to 40oz or 25oz during the day it makes no difference to his nighttime wakings. I
We do 7oz/210ml every four hours. He refuses to take a bottle any earlier - always has done - so we generally know timings from day to day. Sometimes he doesn’t finish it all and pulls away when he’s full or had enough but he’ll still stick to his times. He has his last bottle at 10/10.30 and will sleep through to 6/6.30 so we are able to get his 5 feeds a day in xx
@Louise @Helen @Sophie can I ask if you all feed 200+ ml a feed based on your LO's weight or had you upped it to that to help them go longer stretches w/o a feed? My LO is a chunk and it says on my kendamil tin to not up feeds to 210ml until 6 months.. Just wondering if I'm missing a trick here 😅
I upped it because he was completely finishing the previous ounces and it wasn’t satisfying him enough. What it says on the tin is just guidance.
@beth my baby is exactly the same
I’m the same as Helen. LO was clearing bottles and I could tell he needed more. I upped him really quickly through the mls in the early days and he was taking 210mls from 3 months which is earlier than the tin advised. But he’s stayed on that since and has always been on 50th centile. The tin says he should be going up again at 5months but he doesn’t need it yet so I’ll be keeping him where he is for the time being. I think you’ve got to go by baby needs xx
My other kids was eating every 4h roughly but they never slept through until around 18 months. This time I'm breastfeeding so it's on demand and for comfort, so I have no schedule 🙈😁
