Implication counselling

Have you had mandatory counselling for IUI/IVF? If so, what questions did they ask? How personal did they get? How many mandatory sessions did you get?

I had to. They didn't actually ask much, it was more educational and stuff to think about. Like how to explain why they dont have a dad. And using verbage for when the child is older like male genetic material instead of father genetic material. She explained that children do better knowing how they were born earlier rather than finding out late in life. She recommended some children books etc. it was only one session.

I had IUI using donor sperm and had no mandatory counselling x

@Kelcie thank you. Useful. Good to know they help with thinking ahead when baby is here

@Holly by donor sperm, you mean sperm from an anonymous person? If so, I'll double check with mine that I have to do it.

It was unexpected but very good. I was super nervous going into it because I thought they'd be giving a yes or no on if I should move forward. They don't give that kind of recommendation

@Kelcie good to hear. Feeling calmer about it

Anonymous yes x

I had zero counselling x

It’s an HFEA requirement for clinics to complete one, you can use it to discuss anything you want.
